Wedding ‘Tease’

Here’s just a couple more from Michelle and Justin’s June wedding… full blog post coming soon… I promise. The photos are almost completely done and getting ready to be shipped to Michelle and Justin….I always get nervous before sending the final product out- but that’s part of the fun, right?

I have a ridiculous obsession with softly focused shots- for some reason they just grab me- there’s a little bit of mystery, a little bit of romance… its more like a piece of artwork than a crisp, sharp realistic photograph….

….and I adore the serene look on Michelle’s face here… gorgeous.

Wedding: Robin&Philip- Part III

Showing off the adorable shoes!

Directly after the ceremony, we snuck outside to shoot a few shots with the beautiful sunset….

We all know I love me some sun-flare

So excited for Robin and Philip to look through their photos- this wedding was definitely a highlight of my year!

Wedding: Robin&Philip-Part II

Sometimes shooting the groomsmen is the hardest/most fun part of the day. Hard- because I’m not a guy and I have to keep them on task- and fun, because I’m not a guy and they are usually sort of crazy and ridiculous.

All I had to do was mention: ‘model’ and this is what I got….

Handsome groom

Love this one

and then… the groomsmen asked if they could pick up Philip- “sure” I replied, and Philip seemed to agree…. so, they picked him up. And then? They….dropped. Him. On. The. Ground. I didn’t know whether to laugh or gasp. Philip was a great sport- after a brush off and laugh we were set to proceed with photos….

Robin and Philip decided on doing a ‘First Look’ and take all their photos pre-wedding ceremony. I love shooting this way- because it always allows plenty of time for shooting, and lets the bridal party proceed to the reception quickly after the ceremony!

First sight…

then we snuck off to get a few bride and groom photos sans bridal party….

Into the car and onto the ceremony!

Wedding: Robin and Philip- Part I

My lovely friends Robin and Philip said ‘I do’ in June. I was super excited to share their day with them…. from the delicious cupcakes at the reception to taking photos with our Team 1 band members, to bridesmaid dance parties and photos with Robin and Philip at sunset- it was a beautiful day. Enjoy!

From the rehearsal:

…wedding day:

Robin made a bunch of cake-plates with vintage cups and plates to serve goodies on at the reception! (like I did here) Such a great idea.

Yum…and that’s the best I’ve seen the Missions Cafe at Apex… that’s all I have to say about that….

So delicious- plus, check out their ‘logo’…. creative!

Robin is known for her fabulous shoes…. these did not dissapoint.

Is Robin GORGEOUS or what?! Seriously, beautiful lady.

So many smiles- so many wonderful ladies!

BFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFs……

I love the fact that my sisters think I’m hilarious. (and, I mean, I am, right? They don’t just ‘think’ so)

I hope that they know they can always come to me with anything and I will always love them.

I love that we can all three hang out in sweatpants and ratty hoodies, but we also all love to wear our fancy sunnies and earrings and frilly clothes from Forever21. Either way, its good.

I love that even though we’ve put each other through a lot of different crap- we’re still close, and hopefully always will be.

When they’re hurting, it breaks my heart and I want to be the big sister and fix everything, even though I have no clue where to start.

When I don’t see them for more than a week at a time, it feels like something is missing.

I love how we can finish each others sentences, or how we’ll say the exact same thing at the exact same moment.

I love the fact that I have built in best friends. Always.

I hope I’m everything I need to be in an older sister. I wish I prayed for them more, I wish I had more experience in a lot of situations so I could give them sage advice. I hope I don’t come off bossy and know-it-all. I hope I’m a good example.

I love you two. A whole lot.

Robin&Philip Wedding Preview II

Another shot from Robin & Philip’s wedding:

expect more soon!

Robin&Philip- Wedding Preview

My good friend Robin got married yesterday…!! I was honored and excited to share in the festivities. It was a beautiful day… and I can’t believe she’s married! Crazy! The day consisted of a girl dance party in the dressing area, photos in the park, Dumb&Dumber references during the ceremony, and my favorite part of photographing the day… the just married Mr.&Mrs. snuck outside with me directly after the ceremony and shot some “newlywed” photos in the setting sun…

That one is straight out of the camera. When you have a beautiful couple and amazing sunlight, you don’t need processing!

…and, I must confess, I was pretty excited about all the cupcakes. They were amazing. Me & Kate both thought so.

Wedding: Cali&Peter Pt. II

Part two of Cali&Peter’s Cleveland wedding:

We snuck away while everyone was eating to grab a few shots of Cali&Peter upstairs in the quiet:

I love shots likes these…. by all standards, it was a mistake, over-exposed, unfocused…. but I find it striking.

…everyone then proceeded to dance the night away… (literally!)

There was even a giant-room-sized conga-line….

We said farewell with sparklers and cheers as Peter&Cali drove off into the night.

Wedding: Cali & Peter Pt. I

I met Cali & Peter through my friends Megan & Anton (who’s wedding I shot last May) and was extremely excited to meet and talk with them. They were married January 23, 2010 in at the Old Courthouse in Cleveland, OH. Cali & Peter were a sweet couple to photograph and spend the day with. They both possessed contagious smiles and a happy energy that instantly put me at ease while shooting. The bridal party was a gang full of personality and true friends who’s toasts attested to the character of both Peter and Cali. I was touched by the speeches given, as well as by Peter and Cali incorporating a foot washing into their ceremony. Peter and Cali- I wish you both the best and I know God has great plans for you!

The girls got ready out at Cali’s parents beautiful home:

I then headed back to the hotel to shoot the guys preparing for the ceremony:

Pt. II to come!

Dear Valentine…

More to come…

I sort of love fall….

A Walk through the sunshine by you.
(photo cred: me)
It’s sort of a love affair… I adore autumn.
I love apple cider. I love the color. The crisp air.
Wearing a jackets and sweaters and scarves and tights and boots. (I don’t like wearing coats, but jackets are good.)
I love hay rides, and dried cornfields. Golden sunlight. Pumpkins. Bonfires.
I even like it when it rains in the fall.

New Digs…

I’ve finally had a chance to do a little around the new apartment… here’s a few shots of my bedroom:

The walls are this gorgeous peacock blue/teal color… I’m in love. (only two of the walls are painted.)Peacocks are sort of an obsession if you couldn’t tell from my logo….

The paper lanterns and light fixtures are from Ikea… I love them to death. The pink frame is thrifted and spray-painted by me, with, a print of my very own in it. (and, p.s., I love my new paisley sheets from Target, their clearance section is awesome)

My cluttered, but fairly tidy dresser and mirror. Vintage jewelry box that used to be my grandma’s, a jewelry tree from Ikea, and a lamp and lampshade from Target…

…I love Peonies, so I made up this little arrangement today. I like the way it pops against the walls. I’ll shoot a better shot when I have some daylight.

book corner…it’s amazing how many books fit in that little shelf…

I’ll shoot some of the other space next time I get a chance.

“Please, Please, Please, let me, let me, let me…get what I want, this time…”

I am about to go see (500) Days of Summer for the second time. By myself. And that’s okay with me.

I used to do a lot of things by myself (when I was in school), but ever since I got my own place (it’s been almost a year now since I’ve been out on my own!! Seems so short, and so long at the same time.) I tend to just stay home and be a homebody if I don’t have someone to hang out with. But tonight I am out, by myself, and I am okay with it.

I am also super okay with all the good talks I’ve had with people this past week. E-mails, coffee dates, a sincere talk in the hallway at Apex. I appreciate the honesty that these people present to me, the sincerety they offer, and most of all, the care for me I see in their eyes. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve this, but I hope I never do anything to lose it.

I think I may love the book of Ecclesiastes. Strange? I started reading it the other night, because one of (if not my favorite) verse ever is located there (Ecc. 3:11) ….. and I read three straight chapters…

I’m sorry I haven’t posted any photos recently, for those of you who follow this blog. I’ve recently gotten back from a cross-country trek, moved, work over-time @ work (because we were moving there as well) and been doing various other life things… but I DO have photos coming… I’m working with a music artists currently for some album artwork/photos, plus I have some conceptual stuff of my own I need to shoot/edit….

Now I’m off to the movies…..leaving you with this gorgeous photo of the ms. Deschanel….

Wedding: Carl&Lindsay Pt. I

Wedding Preview: Amy&Kent

Just a couple photos from the beautiful wedding of Amy and Kent held at Carillon Park…more to come!

Preview…

A nice summer evening…spent shooting photos for a great couple, iced Chai at Dino’s,  listening to good music while driving on country roads…then shooting some photos with my sisters.

Just a little preview of what I got tonight….lots of good stuff.

Wedding: Lindsay&Nick

Lindsay and Nick were an amazing couple to photograph…they were naturals in front of the camera, and their wedding party was tons of fun! It rained before the ceremony, but cleared up in time to get Lindsay and Nick’s photos outside!

Lindsay has the best laugh and smile!

…check out those flowers…gorgeous!

Wedding: Megan&Anton

Water….

Just one from today….my sister (in-law) put her wedding dress on again for me…and my camera. Love you Kari! Second time, was just as beautiful as the first….

Preview, Wedding: Dawn&John

Wedding season is in full swing for me. It’s both total blessing, as each wedding brings something new to the table and I feel honored to all who have had me be a part of their special days, and totally chaotic and a tad bit stressful for laid-back, easy going me.

This past weekends wedding, was a total blast. A fun, laid-back couple who just radiated joy….completely fun to shoot.

Here’s a few for now…

They didn’t even bat an eye when I said, “I’m going to lay in the grass, and then have you both hold hands over me and my camera, and maybe give me a kiss?”….yeah. And 5 minutes later, I definitely had a spider crawling on my dress. I was professional and only gave a quite squeal while brushing frantically at the spot where it was….

…that’s my hottie of a sister-in-law….she was in the wedding, and I totally had to snap one of her styling in that stunning red dress.

….I’d like to hire Dawn as a model….she was a natural in front of the camera. When I snapped some photos of her and her mom, she said, “Come on mom, vogue it!”

More to come.

Almost a Month

Its been almost a month since I last had the time to write something.

May has been a blur…still is.
  • I love spring.
  • I love that people want photos because the weather is gorgeous.
  • I love that it stays light out till 9
  • I love shooting weddings
  • I love shooting photos of anything
  • I’m loving Death Cab’s new album (yes, it came out YESTERDAY. Death Cab was actually my FIRST EVER secular music purchase. A big deal for me, seeing how I was raised on Christian music only. Transatlanticism changed my musical life. How cool that my first purchase was such an amazing album)
  • I love having millions of photos I need to edit but no time. Scratch that. But I don’t mind. I can’t wait to sit down and work on them.
  • I love going to weddings where there’s just this unexplainable love. Love for Christ above all else, but also, such an amazing pure and holy love between the bride and groom. It makes me hopeful for the future.
