Oh- hey, I still take pictures and play dress up…

Yeah- mostly, the dress-up takes place over at the Tumblr nowadays… but the lovely Miss Kara featured me on round two of her ‘Fashion Faux Pas’ feature… you may remember round one? (that was back when I was a redhead!) I was excited that she asked me to participate again. I chose the faux pas ‘White after Labor Day’ (does ANYONE really adheare to that any more!?) I am not one for packing away ’seasonal’ items… yeah. Right. I’m a firm believer that white looks pretty in any season…. so I thought I’d give you a heads up in case you wanted to check out the feature- and if you’re into pretty things and sweet photography just check out Kara’s blog in general- I recommend!

I’m sporting a thrifted dress that I hacked off, tights from who knows where, Chinese Laundry boots, a Forever21 cardi, H&M earrings, a cowl scarf from Etsy, and one of my very own EmilyOH! headbands.

Emily, Oh! Head Bands….

Hey all,

I’ve had a lot of inquiries about my flower head-bands…. as seen in these photos, sported by myself….

… and I’ve found a brand of silk(ish) flowers that I absolutely adore, so I was wondering if anyone has any interest in purchasing their own?

Right now, I’m offering two different types, the full-blown, dramatic, oversize Josephine Blossom Band:

…and for the girl who may not be prepared for to take on the ENTIRE blossom (that’s a lot of flower, I know!)… the more demure, but no less girlie, Juliet Bud Band:

Now, I just snapped these photos quickly this morning when I didn’t even have any make-up on, so I’ll post some more official photos later this weekend/Monday when I have the chance, so you all can see the product a bit better, but right now, I have a total of 2 Juliet Blossom Bands in light Pink (as shown in the photo) and 3 over-sized Josephine Blossom bands, 1 in Crimson, and 2 in light pink (as shown).

These come on a one-size fits all elastic black band and look gorgeous with your hair up, down, curly or straight! I have about 5 of them that I wear whenever I need a little something to dress my outfit up! (As a wedding photographer, I find that they are the perfect accessory, as I don’t wear a lot-if any- jewelry other than earrings because it gets in the way of the camera and bag- so these add a little flair and are out of the way!)

I’m offering a deal for anyone interested, the Juliet Bud Bands are $10 ea (+shipping) and the 3 Josephine Blossom Bands are $15 ea(+shipping) - these prices are just for these 5 bands! If you’re interested, let me know- leave a comment with your e-mail and I will be in touch. Also, if you are interested in a color not offered- please let me know and I will create a custom band for you!

More photos to come!

Adventures in the Kitchen

As I said in a previous post- I’m working on cooking more at home, eating GOOD food (non-processed, non-fast-food) on a more regular basis. Plus, I’m finding out that I love to cook. I love chopping and stirring and the presentation. I love all the colors…. so I’m going to do my best to document my adventures here on the blog- food photography is fun.

Friday night I finally got around to making some nachos…

They were so pretty- I almost hated to eat them. (almost)

I fried the chicken up with some lime… yum. Then I topped blue tortilla chips with the chicken, black beans, sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, green onions and a little salsa. Mmmm.

Then this morning before I headed off to work, I finally got around to making the French Toast I’d been craving for a couple weeks now. (But I didn’t have any eggs till yesterday)

Topped the French Toast with fresh strawberries and powdered sugar (AND real Maple syrup) So good.

P.S. For those of you who enjoy my ‘outift’ posts, I’ve started a Tumblr account/blog/thing just for that…. so check it out! There’s a new outfit up! Its a Peacock Feather Day

The Blazer (And photos from a blog feature)

Perusing some of the blogs I frequent for fashion inspiration I decided a while back that I needed I black blazer again. I used to have one back in high school that I had thrifted… and I loved it to death…

My sister had given me a Target gift card for my birthday so I stopped in with no intention of buying anything, it had been over a month since I had been to a Target, so I was just “looking” (hah, famous last words!) I happened upon a basic black blazer… in the clearance section no less, for the exact amount that I had on the gift card! Unfortunately, after I got it home, I kind of looked at it… and thought to myself…”I know I wanted this… but to wear with what?” I mean, my work is business casual, but I didn’t want it for WORK. So I decided to play dress up again. (its been a while!) enjoy!

I tried it first in a casual way. Rolled “boyfriend” jeans, a classic grey hoodie and flats. I layered a bright tank top in there for some color and added some fun dangly gold jewelry for a feminine touch. I’m definitely a fan of this look.

Next I went for a little more of a ‘glam’ look (I mean, a sequined dress… that calls for the word ‘glam’!) Please excuse my face in this photo. I was not trying to look sexy or alluring… its just what the self timer caught me doing. I took this sequined dress from Urban Outfitters and pulled on some basic black leggings and some brightly colored flats. I also added some fun feather earrings that I got from my roomie for my birthday… I like this look, but lets be honest… where am I really going to wear sequins? I’ll just have to make an occasion I guess.

My next challenge to myself was to make it more… ME. Eclectic, colorful and a bit bohemian…. could I do it? Taking a calf-length floaty dress (bought with another gift card I got for my birthday) and layering on a bright scarf with fun trimmings, my trusty knee-high suede boots and a sparkly cuff (another gift from the roomie) I also went with the side braid, as it felt just eclectic enough for the outfit. Success! Liking this outfit a whole lot!

Lastly, I paired it with an H&M scarf, skinnies and a classic v-neck layered over a tank. Moccasains on the feet lent to the casual/classic feel.

Verdict, I like the blazer and am looking forward to wearing it often.

p.s., I posted the link to Kara’s blog where I participated in a feature she was doing the other day… here’s some of the photos from the feature. (the challenge was fashion Faux-Pas, and I chose wearing brown and black together.)

Inspiration Friday Spring 2010 Style Edition

Its been a while since I’ve done an inspiration Friday… I’ve been working on a list of things I want to accomplish and try in 2010/year 25 of my life and one of those is put together inspiration boards for the different seasons- fashion focused… (its one of the smaller, more shallow items on my list, but its fun.)

Lately, I’m thinking back to the days where I wore dresses over jeans constantly (I know, guys don’t seem to understand this, but I don’t care. I love the look, plus its super comfortable and I don’t have to worry about being modest.) I’m aching to travel, and drawn again, to bright colors and items with a bit of an ethnic feel…

http://emilyoblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/spring2010.jpg

A few definites on the list are the blue printed dress (I already have it) and the Toms shoes…(which I don’t have, but am getting with Christmas money. For a good cause, and I have been wanting some casual canvas shoes- I won’t say need, since clothes and shoes are not something I lack)

I’m really excited about a few things 2010 may have in store for me… it’s already looking up in comparison to 2009.

Sweater Mash-Up

There are some people who can wear a sweater really well. Not like a cardigan… a sweater. You know, those neat, chunky, cuddly ones? I always feel weird wearing them. A mix between the kid on ‘Christmas Story’ who’s so budled up in his snow-suit that he can’t really move, and a giant wooly, overheated sheep. In simple terms, I feel as though I disappear, and all that remains is a giant sweater with arms and legs. So one of my goals was to find one of these sweaters this winter, and learn how to wear it. Because I am sick of being cold at work. And in my apartment… and everywhere else. I picked one up at TJ Maxx, and I love it so far… only one problem… it doesn’t have full-length sleeves. Sweater FAIL. Oh well. We can’t have it all, can we?

Here’s a couple different looks I messed around with a couple weeks ago…

I’d probably wear tights with this. Lets face it, I was indoors, and not thinking about the real weather. But I like the pops of red, and I love this belt, even though I have yet to wear it out of the house.

Dressing the sweater up a bit. I already have plans for this outfit and the holidays…

… and a typical, nerdy Emily ensemble. A touch of the bohemian with a large slice of dork. (that may just be the glasses and the pose, but that’s how I see it.)

Dress Up

Uh… so I confessed to playing dress-up a couple posts ago… and I’m confessing to it again… that’s right. I just spent my morning playing dress-up.

I used three pieces to style around, the firs being a $5 clearance dress from Forever21, here’s the first outfit…

lots of color…cardigan from NYC&Co, tights… maybe from Target, and the purple pumps are from Old Navy a couple years ago. (my grown up girl shoes) All jewelry is from Forever21. It’s definitely a summer dress, but I’ve never been one to pack away clothes for their respective seasons.

Here I paired the dress with my knee-high boots (Chinese Laundry) a cardigan thing from Forever21, and a Target clearance belt. The ginormous flower head-piece is from Forever21 and is absolutely ridiculous and I love it.

…and the last with this dress… (I’m sort of into wearing flowers in my hair currently) Paired with an old GAP cardigan, my gray Old Navy boots, favorite polka-dot tights and a SoftSpoken scarf/shawl. The flower is again, from Forever21. I think this is my favorite outfit with this dress.

The next piece is a skirt that I picked up in California at Buffalo Exchange… I love the print on it so much…

a knit cardigan from Target, a v-neck T from Forever21, the clearance belt from Target, my polka-dot tights, heels from Pato’s Closet, and peacock feather earrings from Guatemala. (my sister bought them for me years ago)

a black top from Old Navy, scarf and sweater-thing from Forever21, a thrifted belt, and Black-Friday sale boots from Forever21.

I layered the skirt over a dress I’ve had for years, belted it with another Target clearance belt, I think the lace tights are also from Target, I don’t remember where the granny shoes are from (I’ve had them too long) and the little head-band is from Forever21. (that’s my place for cheap accessories as if I needed to point that out)

Lastly is another little clearance dress from Forever21…

Here paired with that sweater-thing and lace tights, little magenta suede flats from Target and a pearl-locket necklace from Gabriel Brothers (maybe? don’t remember)

Here I left the lace tights on, threw on the knee-high boots and a zip-up jacket… then I made a crazy face.

…and lastly, a little 80s flavor… (and my favorite with this dress maybe?) leggings, Urban Outfitter canvas shoes, Old Navy jacket and nerd glasses from either a Halloween store or RedVelvetArt.com… and what I’m going to wear if I end up going out tonight.

Happy Saturday all.

Now I’m inpsired to dress cute today….

Saturday. Saturday. Saturday.

I’ve been debating a knit mini skirt for a while now… yesterday I picked one up at Forever21 for under $10. Its a black and burgundy print, but the fun thing is, it’s solid black knit on the other side with the exception of the waistband and hem (which are the print) so if I cut the tags off, it totally doubles as a reversible skirt. Score. Two skirts for under $10.

I proceeded to play around with some outfits this morning…very versatile.

Paired with a $4.50 v-neck from Forever21, an Old Navy jacket, cheap sneakers from Urban Outfitters and a thrifted owl necklace.

Skirt turned inside out, paired with a clearance top from Forever21, a knit blazer/cardi from Target, a studded belt from my high school days, flats from Alloy.com and some oversized beads from Forever21 from a couple years back.

Skirt turned inside out again, paired with a Forever21 flannel top, Target boots, a necklace partly from Forever21, partly constructed by me, and a home-made flower headband.

Lastly (which was actually firstly, but oh well) paired with a NY&Co blouse, a fabulous Softspoken scarf (I can’t say enough about her stuff! Everything is amazing and gorgeous. Shop her Etsy for Christmas gifts! Seriously) burgundy tights that I’ve had for forever, and clearance (read: cheap) heels from DSW Shoe outlet.
