live shows

Future of Forestry

Last Wednesday I went with some friends to see Future of Forestry in Columbus while they were on their Travel tour…. (I highly recommend Travel I, II & III) I was able to pick up Travel III while at the show…and that’s pretty much what I was listening to all last week in the car.

Here are a few blurry shots from my point-and-shoot, if you want to see some better ones- head over to my friends flickr & check them out. (they are way better than mine) I’m not really one for toting around my camera/gear at a show… I know- what’s wrong with me?

The drummer/computer techie/ bassist/ guy who played every instrument played a toy piano at one point (and a trombone) and I took some video of it, however, I filmed it….sideways. Because I’m awesome like that….so, I’ll have to figure out how to rotate it so I can post it.

Rosi Golan @ Southgate House

Me and some lovely girlies drove down to Newport last night to see Rosi Golan at Southgate House… we made a stop at Noodles&Co. for dinner… my first time ever (I think the phrase ‘noodle virgin’ was uttered, strange and sort of awkward sounding, but it happened)

I got Pad Thai, and it was delicious.

Kate got Mac ‘n Cheese

Kari got soup AND noodles…. special….

And Robin got something spicy…

It was kind of freezing out… so we got Starbucks before the show at Barnes&Noble… where I spotted Rosi Golan… but, I felt awkward going up to her, so I just stalked her at a distance for a little bit and then we headed over to Southgate House.

So then… Rosi was at her table, and was like, okay, we should go over and say hi… and they were all like, “Yes!… we’ll follow YOU.” Right, because I’m the outgoing one? Seriously guys? But I totally did it. (bet you weren’t expecting that twist!) and I admitted to Rosi that we had spotted her in B&N… and she was super nice and let us get a photo with her…

one of the opening acts… Luke… something. I don’t remember offhand, but he was good! Amazing on the guitar.

Rosi was amazing, just like the last time I saw her @ Southgate… such an amazing voice.

Music and Life

I love music. I love live music. I generally drive at least an hour to see live music. This is how it is. Mute Math… what can I say. I’m always sort of on the fence when I hear their albums… but then I see them live, and it’s like, wow. Amazing. Highlights were “Clipping” (Love that song) and, the encore (which I called) “Spotlight” (even if it automatically brings to mind scenes from Twilight.) Amazing show. Once again though, I am a failure with the camera thing. No professional cameras were allowed, but I had my trusty point and shoot… which, had a dead battery. Again. Maybe third times a charm? I got about 3 so so photos with the camera, then had to use the phone. But whatever. I don’t want to live life through a viewfinder.

In other news, I got my hair colored last week….a little red/copper put in instead of the blonde.

…and this is how I spent last Saturday…mmmm…my apartment complex has an inground pool, and it isn’t closed yet….

Keep on Checkin them off

Just last month I was able to check off one of my “See-Before-I-Die” bands, Sigur Ros, and what do ya know, last night, I had the chance to see another one! Two for two!

http://allthesongs.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/death-cab.jpg

Death Cab for Cutie.
I remember when I first heard these guys…New Year was the first song I heard, (and they played it!) and I knew I had to have the album. They were the first album I ever purchased through itunes, and actually, the were the first “secular band” (sorry mom and dad!) whose album I purchased.

They played at the Lifestyle Pavilion in Columbus, and I also had to chance to see Tegan and Sara, who make some pretty undeniably awesome pop tunes.

I left before the encore (I know, I know, I’m a little grandma…I didn’t want to hang in traffic, or deal with all the little kiddie scene kids running rampant.) But they played an awesome set, and Ben Gibbard sounds EXACTLY like the albums….

The baseline in “I Will Possess Your Heart” was amazing live.

And they played “Grapevine Fires” which is my favorite tune off Narrow Stairs.

Lots of fun. I LOVE good live music so much. I didn’t take a camera, and I’m glad, because I just enjoyed the show. I even sang along a little bit. (who could help but sing “I’ll Follow You into the Dark?”)

I’ll leave you with a couple shots I took a while back in August, that I’ve just now got around to editing….because I can’t stand posting without some visuals.

Little Darlin' by you.

this is my desktop wallpaper…such gorgeous color….yum.

my pretty “glamour hippie” sister…styled by me of course…who else has that magpie eye for sparkles an sequins!?

p.s.
i rented a 50mm 1.2 lens to use in a shoot this coming weekend (trying it out before I buy it eventually) so look forward to some SWEET photos….because this lens…is…frickin. AMAZING.

Real quick

I don’t have a lot of time, here’s a couple shots from the Sigur Ros show last night. AMAZING. (all of these are shot with my point and shoot)

Tomorrow night I get to see one of my top three favorite bands….ever.
A “see live before I die” band.

Sigur Ros.

Untitled Number 3 moves my heart
Hoppipolla is the song I’ll play at my wedding if I ever get married
() is one of my most favorite albums. It’d be a desert island pick.

And I’m off to Detroit tomorrow to see them LIVE.
I’m so excited.

Its. Going. To. Be. Epic.

(In case you were curious, the two other bands that hold the top three spot with Sigur Ros are Coldplay and, on a totally different note, Death Cab.)

Phil Wing Benefit Concert Photos

Since I guess people actually read this thing…and don’t look at my flickr site…..(cough, cough) here are a few of the photos from the Phil Wing Benefit Concert, featuring Charis, Blackburn, and of course, the Phil Wing Band (with Phil on keys!! Yay, how thrilling)

Purple Door ‘07

Clap your hands tonight

Kim, Val and I went to Purple Door in Lewisberry PA this past weekend.

Highlights were Anberlin and Leeland.

They were amazing.

we also saw Cool Hand Luke, Derek Webb, Unwed Sailor, Relient K, Family Force Five (weirded out, is what came to mind during that show) and a bit of the Mewithoutyou show.

There was also this sweet artist guy…Eric James I think….he did a seminar and a live art show thing, which was inspiring…..

I got lots of pictures. Polaroids and digitals.

my head hurts.

I’m tired….but it was fun.
